Elementary School
Üröm, 1998

The expansion of the school, built in the center of the town in the '70s, focused on the two courtyards that can be accessed through a covered driveway. The spacious central hall serves as a lobby from where the classrooms can be reached. The organic main street facade is partitioned according to the rhythm of traditional small-town closed-row architecture. The central element of the tightly-knit structure is the courtyard, which is a place of arrival, games and sports. Since the gym is also used as a community hall, it was designed with an untrussed roof and unplastered brick cladding. Aptly mixing discipline and playfulness, these spaces are intended for activities that educate both the mind and the body
